The Army of the New Mexico Territory was an American army that existed from 1850 to 1861, consisting of the 3,000-strong 4th US Cavalry Regiment. John Pope commanded the Albuquerque-headquartered army in the New Mexico Territory until the start of the American Civil War, when it was ordered to march east to Washington DC by 9 September 1861 to reinforced the Army of the Potomac.
