Gilbert Z. Byed

Gilbert Z. Byed (1840-1898) was a US Marshal who was active in South Dakota during the Wild West. In 1898, he and dozens of other Marshals tracked down the outlaws Arizona Kid, Iron-Sights Jones, and Little Pete to Custer County, only for the outlaw trio to gun down all of the lawmen and dogs sent after them.
