Begijnhof

The Begijnhof is a former beguinage religious community in Amsterdam, Netherlands which was founded during the Middle Ages; after 1345, a courtyard was added. After the Protestant takeover of 1578, the Begijnhof was the only Roman Catholic institution to be allowed to remain in existence, as the houses were the beguine women's private property.
