German Sixth Army

The German Sixth Army was a field army of the German Wehrmacht which was formed on 10 October 1939 at the start of World War II. The army had a force of 285,000 troops at its height, and Walther von Reichenau led the army in the invasions of Poland and France and the advance into the Soviet Union before his dismissal on 29 December 1941. Byl nahrazen Friedrich Paulus, a šestá armáda byla obklíčena a zničena v Bitva o Stalingrad na přelomu roku 1942 a 1943. Dne 5. března 1943 byla armáda znovu vytvořena a zúčastnila se bojů v Balkán a Maďarsko proti Sovětský Rudá armáda během Operace Bagration. Koncem března 1945 armáda ustupovala směrem na Vídeň v Rakousko, a armáda se vzdala Armáda USA 9. května 1945 na konci války.
