Cadmus Marcellus Wilcox
Cadmus Marcellus Wilcox (20. května 1824-2. prosince 1890) byl generálem Confederate States Army během American Civil War. V roce 1885 mu byla nabídnuta hodnost brigádního generála v Anglo-Egypt Sudan Army, ale odmítl.
Biography
Wilcox se narodil ve Wayne County v Severní Karolíně, ale ve dvou letech se přestěhoval do Tipton County v Tennessee. Studoval ve West Pointu a absolvoval v roce 1846 jako 54. z 59 kadetů. V roce 1847 se zúčastnil dobytí Monterrey během Mexican-American War a později bojoval v Battle of Veracruz and the Battle of Cerro Gordo. V letech 1852 až 1857 byl asistentem instruktora vojenské taktiky na West Pointu a kvůli nemoci rezignoval, než odcestoval do Evropy. Publikoval práce o vývoji pěchoty podle modelu Austrian Army po svém návratu.
V roce 1860 byl poslán do teritoria Nové Mexiko a v červnu 1861 odešel do Richmondu, když se Tennessee odtrhlo od Unie. In the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863, he led attacks on Cemetery Ridge against the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment, which suffered 82% losses. After the death of William Dorsey Pender, he was made a Brigadier General and he fought in Virginia for the rest of the war. After the civil war ended, he refused the rank of Brigadier General in the Egyptian Army but was made chief of the railroad division for the government at Washington, D.C. for President Grover Cleveland.
