Bitva u Turceni
The Battle of Turceni was fought between the army of Bulgaria and the Russian Empire on the Romanian front of World War I in 1916. The Central Powers army, consisting of six Bulgarian regiments and two backup German and Austro-Hungarian regiments, captured the hill at Turceni from the Imperial Russian Army, securing a vital point on the Romanian border.Battle
With the Bulgarians victorious over the Russians at the Battle of Rosenovo on the Dobrudja front of southeastern Romania, the Central Powers také tlačily na útok v jihozápadním Rumunsku, konkrétně na západě Wallachian town of Turceni. The Imperial Russian Army založili významnou základnu na vrcholu kopce v jižních Karpatech a Bulhaři – posíleni o German and an Austro-Hungarian regiment - zaútočili na vrchol kopce ze tří stran. Na severním svahu hory Bulhaři zabezpečili lesní příkopy a polní baterii, kterou drželi proti četným ruským protiútokům. Mezitím centrální síly dobyly pevnost na vrcholu kopce, která byla poté bombardována chemickým plynem ve snaze vyplašit bulharské jednotky. Nicméně Bulhaři se drželi pevně, udržujíce své pozice tváří v tvář zuřivým ruským útokům. Nakonec byli Rusové nuceni snížit své ztráty a ustoupit.
