The 36th Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Australian Army that was active from 1916 to 1918 and from 1921 to 1945. The battalion was raised in New South Wales for service in Australian Imperial Force during World War I, and it suffered heavy casualties on the Western Front before was disbanded before the end of the war due a lack of replacement. The battalion served in New Guinea and New Britain during World War II before disbanding in 1945.
